In the 1890's, Mary Harris Jones was a part of the Union Mine Workers. She did not agree with their views, which caused her to create the Social Democratic Party. Mother Jones felt strongly about unfair labor laws. This caused her to lead strikes that rebelled these laws. She felt especially strong about children's labor laws. Because of this, Mary lead thousands of kids, that worked in mines or factories, from Pennsylvania to New York. She did this to show the president how the children were treated and why labor laws needed to be changed. In the end they got the Child Labor Laws passed, effecting the kids greatly. They were now able to go to school. She believed in this so much that nobody could stop her, not even the government. The terrible way in which workers were treated was all the cause Mary needed to get involved and change our laws, views and ultimately world. She saw something that she knew wasn't right, and decided to do something that will leave a ripple and will make working a normal pleasant experience, not torture and abuse by those who are richer.

you can't take my arm, but you can take my suitcase."
